冬至 (dong zhi)

Today is 冬至 (dong zhi), according to the Chinese calendar, is the coldest day in a year. On this special day, a special dish, 汤圆 (tang yuan) has to be served , it is a dish of glutinous rice balls served in a sweet broth.

  1. By eating tang yuan you are one year older.  So since when I was a young  girl, I really  don't like to eat , not because I will get one year older , because it is tasteless.( the original taste)  until one day I noticed that there are filling in certain brand of tang yuan, then I started to eat ) like the one shown below.
  2. This is my handmade miniature tang yuan, of course can not be eaten. I love tang yuan with black sesame and peanuts inside.

My handmade miniature clay Tang Yuan

This miniature tang yuan was made 3 years ago. The soup is not so clear because I used candle to make it as I can't get any false/fake water in the market during that time. The outlook is really good, maybe you can try.

Always be creativecurious and aware, you will create something out of nothing.

Don't forget to eat 汤圆 Tang Yuan Today! (  I will eat the one with black sesame & peanuts .:p )

Mini Christmas Tree

One of the reason I like Christmas Day is because of the Christmas Tree. It is just a simple tree and when Christmas season comes, this tree has turned into different types of "tree". During this time, I will go around the shopping malls in Singapore to search for these beautiful trees.

I have made this mini simple Christmas Tree. FYI, I used the soft clay to make the tree below, it is more easier than using  other types of clay

These are the steps that I make this mini Christmas tree:
1. row the clay into a cone shape
2. use scissors and cut the e.dge
         3. use micro beads to decorate the tree.
             4. use white soft clay to make some snow.

Hold the tree like this (picture below) and cut all the edges, so all the pointed leaves will stand up nicely.

If you touch the leaf before it dried up, it will look like this. (picture above)

This mini 2D Christmas tree was made last year.

Jolin, the youngest student

Jolin is the youngest student among all my students. She is only 8 , going to primary 3 next year. Her mother told me she was so surprised when she saw her daughter's self learned  miniature master pieces. So she looked for miniature classes and finally come to me.
She is a quick learner  and did her work very well.

(She does not want people to take photos during her first lesson, and she let me took this picture during her 2nd lesson. ^.^ )

Food Model/ Replicas - Papaya

I have made this real size papaya for a store as a food replica. It used up about 3 packets of clay.
It takes few days to dry too. I like it very much as it really look like a real papaya. Because this is handmade so it does not look so perfect cut like a machine. As requested to cut half, I focus more on the inner part, see those seeds... I made them one by one.

Miniature Sushi

Why are Japanese sushi so popular? Even the miniature sushi are so popular too. I have made the clay sushi for all sushi lovers.

You can know how big is the the plate of miniature sushi by comparing the the toothpick at the side.

The above miniature clay sushi had already sold out. These mini sushi is really very, very small.

You will learn how to make this box of miniature sushi in you beginner miniature clay food courses. The size of these sushi are much much bigger than the mini one .

Miniature Eggs

I love egg so much that no matter how they are  being cooked. Sunny side up , fried egg, half boiled, hard boiled , scrambled, omelet........anymore?   But I don't eat uncooked ( raw) egg.

I have made a plate of miniature eggs with a bowl of cracked egg and egg shells beside it. Hope you like it!
Actually this is quite simple, the only thing is the colour of the egg.

I  purposely made the egg yolk sightly bigger so that you can see it clearly. You must add some colour to the egg white as they are not totally transparent.

From my hand, you can tell how small they are!

The shell on the right isn't so nice because I 've  run out of that colour clay.

Can you manage to see the egg white?

The egg looks so delicious  and real from this angle.

A Day with Senior Citizens playing Dough

I have spent a day with them last week. We have fun with clay. Although we are using play dough, the miniature food we made are excellent.

                                            Look!  How concentrating they are.

To them, actually the items we made are really small and mini. But they did very well. As long as they are willing and have the passion to learn these miniature food, I will try my best to teach.

These are the miniature pastries they have made. Not bad , right?

The picture shown below is the new vision of my handmade miniature hawker stall. Do you still remember
the one I made before? I have changed the mini wooden showcase into mini metal showcase . You need to be very careful when cutting the metal .
