Desserts: Mini snow ice

Singapore's desserts are , so colourful , you can find them in every food centers   they are hot or cold, sticky or clear, wobbly or firm, healthy or sinful, just pick the one you love......these sweet temptations I just can't resist.

This new dessert snow ice is not our local dessert, I think they come from Taiwan?!  They are just good for out hot weather here!

Miniature curry puff

Do you like curry puff? I do, so making miniature curry puff is always my favourite.
If you don't cut the curry puff into half, from the outlook, it is also looks like a gou仔, ( the one we eat during Chinese New Year)

This is my smallest miniature curry puff I have made.

Miniature Nonya Kueh

Nonya Kueh  is one of my favourite snack in all time. They are called Nonya or Straits Chinese because these kuehs  are first made by them

Nonya kueh are made from a variety of fulsome and flavored ingredients such as coconut, sweet potatoes, tapioca, palm sugar and pandan.

When I was a young girl, I helped my aunt to make these nonya kuehs and sell. So I actually know how to make the real one, but the one you see below are my handmade miniature clay nonya kuehs, cannot be eaten.

Miniature kuehs take a lot of time to make as they are so colourful . To get these correct colors  is a great challenge . I usually make the one I like most .

I love nonya kuehs. These are my handmade miniature clay food : Nonya Kueh

Which one do you like?

All the names of these kuehs are in Malay , my Malay is very poor so I actually don't known their name  (only know 1-2 names only) So when I want to buy the real kueh ,I will always look for it and point it to the seller.

The kuehs on the left hand side are all my favourite.

This is not the smallest that I have made.

Miniature Bakua & pork floss

I promised my student to make this miniature clay bakua and pork floss for her. Here they are.

It is so difficult to get the right colour of the bakua. I have tried so many times, and I think this one is the closer colour I can get.
Beside the bakua is the miniature pork floss.

Miniature clay food: Huat Kueh & pao

There are many miniature clay paos on the table, so cute and real, like to have one?  did you know when pao meet huat kueh is meant pao huat (包 发)? and do you know when a pao cut into half means? “包开” and do you know “包粽”(中)means?

(人的想象力非常丰富,若没有包开,包中,包发,请不要怪我。Don't blame me when nothing happens!)  But I believe in  praying.

I like to  make pao because I think because it is one of the simplest miniature creations but be careful, not to make dirty them as they must be totally white.

Miniature nonya kueh

If you love miniature kueh, I think below are some of the kueh you can try, they are quite easy to make.

there are paos, ang ku kueh, rice kueh, and egg tarts.they are all made with clay

note: apply varnish when the clay totally dried,(and also not too much)  or not you will not see the lines that  I have cut on top of the kueh

below is done by one of the student, not much different from mine, right? step by step you can make it! ( varnish not applied yet) the lines of the kueh are clearly seen.
