Clay food model - Assam Fish soup

I always get attracted when I pass by a window full of food replicates. They look so real and beautiful.

I have made a few clay  food replicates for food stores/stalls too. I use my own method and clay to make all these. food models (replicates)  Below is one of them.It may not all look real to you but I will keep on trying to make every piece of my art work looks the best..

my handmade clay food model : Assam fish soup

The size of  this fish with assam  soup is bigger than a real one because the plate is quite big. And usually for displaying effect  we need to make bigger than  a real one.

Beside the fish, there are chilli, lady fingers, tomatoes, egg plants and onion inside the assam soup.

Among all the real size clay food models (replicate)so far that I have made , this is one of my favourite handmade real size food model (replicate). You can view the real thing at NEX shopping center.

Chinese New Year Goodies 3 - 甜甜蜜蜜

This is my 3rd piece of  art work for the Chinese New Year.  I named it 甜甜蜜蜜 as most of the nonya kuehs are sweet and tasty.

Picture below showed a  mini  Nonya basket, (this is not the smallest basket). I have made a plate of  miniature clay nonya kuehs and put it inside. Beside the basket is a plate of mandarin oranges and some yuan bao. (元宝) ( money used in olden days)

It looks very unique inside a transparent  casing.

Do these kuehs make your mouth watering? I love nonya kuehs so much.......

You can cover the lid too. ( I tied a bead string to it)

Miniature Nonya Kueh

Nonya Kueh  is one of my favourite snack in all time. They are called Nonya or Straits Chinese because these kuehs  are first made by them

Nonya kueh are made from a variety of fulsome and flavored ingredients such as coconut, sweet potatoes, tapioca, palm sugar and pandan.

When I was a young girl, I helped my aunt to make these nonya kuehs and sell. So I actually know how to make the real one, but the one you see below are my handmade miniature clay nonya kuehs, cannot be eaten.

Miniature kuehs take a lot of time to make as they are so colourful . To get these correct colors  is a great challenge . I usually make the one I like most .

I love nonya kuehs. These are my handmade miniature clay food : Nonya Kueh

Which one do you like?

All the names of these kuehs are in Malay , my Malay is very poor so I actually don't known their name  (only know 1-2 names only) So when I want to buy the real kueh ,I will always look for it and point it to the seller.

The kuehs on the left hand side are all my favourite.

This is not the smallest that I have made.

Chinese New Year Goodies 2 - 财神到

财神到!(God of Wealth)  is one of the most popular and powerful God among all Chinese God.

Cai Shen  -  a god that can bring in wealth and riches, the God of Wealth is worshiped by most Chinese.
During Chinese New Year, almost  every family will hang a picture ( nowadays Cai Shen images, like the one I made below) of the god for blessings of great luck and large wealth.

I think everyone loves and welcomes God of Wealth any time , any where.

I placed the Cai Shen inside a displayed casing.

This is my newly handmade miniature prawn with shell, prawn noodles or 大虾面

I don/t think I can make back the same nice prawn like this one, so I will keep it for myself. But I will keep on trying to improve and get a better one next time. ( I didn't make the two long hair (须 ))

the size of this prawn is not longer than a normal tooth pick

I have made another mini noodles with a prawn with shell, as it is too small so it not so nice as the big one.

冬至 (dong zhi)

Today is 冬至 (dong zhi), according to the Chinese calendar, is the coldest day in a year. On this special day, a special dish, 汤圆 (tang yuan) has to be served , it is a dish of glutinous rice balls served in a sweet broth.

  1. By eating tang yuan you are one year older.  So since when I was a young  girl, I really  don't like to eat , not because I will get one year older , because it is tasteless.( the original taste)  until one day I noticed that there are filling in certain brand of tang yuan, then I started to eat ) like the one shown below.
  2. This is my handmade miniature tang yuan, of course can not be eaten. I love tang yuan with black sesame and peanuts inside.

My handmade miniature clay Tang Yuan

This miniature tang yuan was made 3 years ago. The soup is not so clear because I used candle to make it as I can't get any false/fake water in the market during that time. The outlook is really good, maybe you can try.

Always be creativecurious and aware, you will create something out of nothing.

Don't forget to eat 汤圆 Tang Yuan Today! (  I will eat the one with black sesame & peanuts .:p )

Mini Christmas Tree

One of the reason I like Christmas Day is because of the Christmas Tree. It is just a simple tree and when Christmas season comes, this tree has turned into different types of "tree". During this time, I will go around the shopping malls in Singapore to search for these beautiful trees.

I have made this mini simple Christmas Tree. FYI, I used the soft clay to make the tree below, it is more easier than using  other types of clay

These are the steps that I make this mini Christmas tree:
1. row the clay into a cone shape
2. use scissors and cut the e.dge
         3. use micro beads to decorate the tree.
             4. use white soft clay to make some snow.

Hold the tree like this (picture below) and cut all the edges, so all the pointed leaves will stand up nicely.

If you touch the leaf before it dried up, it will look like this. (picture above)

This mini 2D Christmas tree was made last year.

Jolin, the youngest student

Jolin is the youngest student among all my students. She is only 8 , going to primary 3 next year. Her mother told me she was so surprised when she saw her daughter's self learned  miniature master pieces. So she looked for miniature classes and finally come to me.
She is a quick learner  and did her work very well.

(She does not want people to take photos during her first lesson, and she let me took this picture during her 2nd lesson. ^.^ )
